چکیده

In this paper, we continue the recently started work on integrating action formalisms with description logics (DLs), by investigating planning in the context of DLs. We prove that the plan existence problem is decidable for actions described in fragments of ALCQIO. More precisely, we show that its computational complexity coincides with the one of projection for DLs between ALC and ALCQIO.

Complexity of Planning in Action Formalisms Based on Description Logics

In this paper, we continue the recently started work on integrating action formalisms with description logics (DLs), by investigating planning in the context of DLs. We prove that the plan existence problem is decidable for actions described in fragments of ALCQIO. More precisely, we show that its computational complexity coincides with the one of projection for DLs between ALC and ALCQIO if op...

Flexible planning using fuzzy description logics: Theory and application

Description logics (DLs for short) are formalisms for representing knowledge of various domains in a structured and formally well-understood way. Typically, DLs are limited to deal with precise and welldefined concepts. In this paper we first present a fuzzy extension of ALC*, called fuzzy ALC*, combining Zadeh’s fuzzy logic with an expressive DL and define its syntax and semantics. Then we dev...

The Projection Problem for EL Actions

Classical action formalisms form a dichotomy regarding their expressive power and computational properties: they are either based on first-order logic (FOL) and undecidable like the Situation Calculus [13], or decidable but only propositional like STRIPS [8, 7]. In [3, 11], it was proposed to integrate description logics (DLs) into action formalisms in order to increase the expressive power bey...

Towards More Useful Description Logics of Time, Change and Context

Description Logics (DLs) are a family of logic-based formalisms for the representation of and reasoning about knowledge. Classical DLs are fragments of first-order logic and therefore aim at capturing static knowledge. Alas, the lack of means of DLs to capture dynamic aspects of knowledge has been often criticized because many important DL applications depend on this kind of knowledge. As a rea...

Using Causal Relationships to Deal with the Ramification Problem in Action Formalisms Based on Description Logics

In the reasoning about actions community, causal relationships have been proposed as a possible approach for solving the ramification problem, i.e., the problem of how to deal with indirect effects of actions. In this paper, we show that causal relationships can be added to action formalisms based on Description Logics (DLs) without destroying the decidability of the consistency and the project...
